Title: Night Light and In the Night Garden - Fall 2013
Post by: BlackRose67 on September 26, 2013, 23:00:33
A few people have indicated that they haven't found one or both of these caches put out by CocaColaCacher.

Since it's getting darker earlier now, I'm looking to organize a group outing to do these caches in mid-October, perhaps a pre-GAG warmup.

Night Light is a traditional cache that was set up to be found at night.
In the Night Garden is a multi that has to be done at night.

I was thinking either Saturday October 19th or the 26th.  October 5th is also a possibility.

Anyone interested post in the thread and indicate your preferred date.

I'm in if I'm available. I've already found Night Light (during the day, even) but not the multi. No preference on date at this point as I'm equally likely to be busy or not on any of them.

I will come along if available, I would like to do a night time maintenance run.  I quite enjoy walking along to this cache, I've done it a few times.  ;)

Great idea Blackrose67! Count us in!

Like GreyingJay, we have already found Night Light, but have been wanting to do In the Night Garden for quite a while now.
Maybe it would make sense to start with In the Night Garden?
We haven't found nearby "Sleepy Hollow - A Night Cache" either, so might be interested in doing that one as #2 instead. Or save it for another time.

So far we are available on all three dates.
I would suggest we attempt to find them earlier rather than later, that way if the weather is not cooperating we can use the other days as alternates and/or optional dates for "Sleepy Hollow - A Night Cache".

Keep us posted!

October 5th is no longer an option for me.

My wife has to work that day and I have to pick her up after 6:30.

If it ends up that I'm the only one that hasn't found Night Light, I can do that one some other time.

I'd love to go, but I have hockey and soccer, and I'll be all over the place in the US, and Toronto for a bit.

Post when you guys are planning on going (When there's a date) here, and I'll see.

Right now it looks like the 19th is my best option, as I will be heading up to camp for a work weekend on the weekend of the 25-27th.

I agree.

We'll set the 19th as the date to look for In the Night Garden, and depending on how long it takes, Sleepy Hollow - A Night Cache as well.

I'll do Night Light some other time on my own.

Count us in for the 19th.
What time/parking coordinates?

Parking coords would be the posted for In The Night Garden, just west of the old railway overpass on Roberston Road.
There's a small area where a couple of vehicles can park.

By the 19th, the sun will be setting around 6:10. I think it should be sufficiently dark by 7:30.
I've only done one other night cache that used fire tacks/reflectors (oddly enough on October 19th, 2012 during GAG18) , and I did that one well after 9:00.

After Thanksgiving dinner tonight, I noticed that it was pitch black by 7:00 PM.

My wife is not working on the 19th, so I won't have to go and get her.

Anyone object to meeting at 7:00 PM instead of 7:30 PM?

No pb with changing to 7PM.
But I am a bit concerned about parking. If the meeting point can only accommodate a couple vehicles, we won't all fit there.

I went by there a couple of times this weekend and there is enough parking for at least 6 vehicles.

Yeah, lots of room for parking in the "lot", plus there's still the wide road shoulder. I wouldn't be concerned.

I will see you guys there at 7pm.

Recent finder says things are still good with the final but I'll still come along to check things out.  I'll be there.

Sounds great.
See you all there on the 19th at 7PM.

Two of us will be coming for In the Night Garden, so see you at 7:00pm.  We have already found Sleepy Hollow, so will be skipping that one.  It's a good one though.

I would recommend boots of some sort, not shoes, for this cache.  There is a bit of a bushwack and it can be damp at times.  See everyone tomorrow night.

Agreed that boots would be a must today.
But honestly, the weather today is as bad as it gets (short of a thunderstorm).

I was looking forward to enjoying this nice night cache with a group of fun people, but the heavy rain is seriously dampening my enthusiasm.

It might be a bit late to think about it, but wouldn't it make sense to push the outing to next Saturday?

If anyone decides to go next week instead (whether part of this existing group or someone else), we will skip tonight and go next week with them.

We might not come tonight regardless, so don't wait for us if we are not there at the meeting time.

I'm OK with still going tonight.

I know GreyingJay is not able to go next weekend.

I'm planning on heading out shortly to grab Night Light before we meet at 7:00.

that was fun!!!

Anyone attempting In the Night Garden in the next few weeks, rubber boots are a must.

There was a lot more standing water than any of us had anticipated - too much to be just from today's rain.

I had intended to join you guys tonight, but I was still sitting in a restaurant waiting for my food by 6:45pm, so there was no way I could finish in time. Hope it was fun.

(And yeah I admit, the HUGE thunderstorm/rain/hail we got this afternoon kinda put a damper on things for me.)

Too bad, cause I even got a new toy from SAIL I was hoping to test out tonight ;)

I will not be available next weekend either due to being at a camp volunteer weekend. Perhaps I'll manage to come back out here this winter. When everything's nice and frozen :)
