In Dash Nav System Caching
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:11:28 »
I picked up up a new vehicle a few weeks ago with an in-dash nav system (DODGE UConnect System, Garmin based).  I read that you could copy POI's to it so I thought I'd give it a try.

I used a GSAK script to copy ~500 caches in to a CSV file, tweaked the file to get the cache name and not the GC number as the name, ran it though the Garmin POI loader and uploaded it via USB stick to the unit.

I was quit impressed with the result considering the limits of in dash nav systems.  I've attached a few pics I took on the way home from the workshop last night.  The nice thing is that if you leave it on the POI screen it keeps updating to always list the four closest caches.  Not going to replace my hand-held unit any time soon but it is good enough to navigate to the general area.

Note, when I was driving it showed arrows instead of N,S,E,W but I was too responsible to try and snap a pic of that.  ;)
