GAG18 - Go and Get ' Em ATE TEEN - October 20th 2012

GAG18 Title Graphic

GAG ATE TEEN: BEWARE THE CACHING HORDES

Bluelamb Zombie

Saturday October 20th, 2012 / samedi the 20 octobre, 2012
18:00 - 20:30
Community Centre / Centre communautaire Richelieu-Vanier
Salle Kiwanis Hall
300 Des Pères-Blancs
Vanier

N 45° 26.630 W 075° 39.590

Event Guidelines

  • Everyone who wishes to participate in this event should head out to find as many GAG 18 caches as they can from 6:00 PM, Friday October 19th until 6:00 PM Saturday October 20th. Don't get caught starting before 6:00 PM or you will be the victim of much taunting and ridicule!

  • At 6:00 PM on the 20th after a LONG day of caching, we will meet at the Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre, Kiwanis Hall ( 300 Des Pères-Blancs, Vanier - posted coordinates).  It is a bring your own food and drink event! (See below for some suggestions).

  • If you want to contribute by creating a cache (that is totally optional and up to you, keep in mind that all the usual cache listing guidelines apply and that you will have to maintain the cache afterwards, it is not just for the duration of the event), between now and October 10th, hide a cache in the Ottawa area. Please don't wait until the last minute; give the reviewers plenty of time to post all caches and our volunteers time to create a bookmark list. If you plan on placing a large number of caches for the event, submit the cache pages for all of the caches at least ten days in advance of the release date. Leave a "note to reviewer" indicating that the cache is to be released on the date specified. All caches placed for the event will be published no earlier than Wednesday afternoon, October 17th and no later than Friday afternoon October 19th, so you can plan your routes and solve any puzzles.

  • You should state on your cache page that your cache should not be found until after 6:00 p.m., October 19th. With the guideline changes in regards to ALRs (additional logging requirements) we cannot indicate that a log for caches found before 6:00 p.m. will be deleted, but you can be creative with your comments to strike fear into the cheaters. Ex: "Your CCC peers will not look highly on this and will drop you into the Sarlacc pit" or "Anyone doing it will be frozen in carbonite!". Have fun with it.

  • Please help with cache identification by prefacing your cache name with GAG18, i.e. "GAG18 - Brain: food".

  • When submitting your cache, leave a reviewer note asking them to place the cache in the HOLD FOR GAG18 PUBLICATION file for publication en masse with the other GAG18 caches.

  • You may want to consider hiding just one cache to keep the work down for the reviewers. Also, if you're placing a multi-cache and/or puzzle, be sure to use the "additional waypoints" feature on the cache creation page to allow reviewers quicker access to determining boundary limitations. The quicker they can get their job done, the more likely your cache will get published in time for the event. Note that most people want to find many caches during a GAG event, so multi-caches and/or puzzles that take several hours to solve are not usually very popular. If you're planning a long multi make it explicit in the cache description.  Also, geocaching.com has added several new attribute icons for caches.  Please make good use of the attributes on your cache page to help everyone during the hunt. Use the appropriate attributes  (winter-friendly or not, how long a hike, etc).  In particular, caches with terrain 1 should have the "wheelchair accessible" attribute.

  • It would be great if you could bring a door prize along, and if you will have children with you (or are one at heart), it would be wonderful if you could bring a kid's prize as well. All kids (big and small) like to go home with prizes, and they always look forward to that part of the evening.

  • Have any ideas to add to this event? Looking to volunteer some time to help? Have event related questions?
    Please send us an email
through the "Canada's Capital Cachers GAG Committee" profile page at geocaching.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

  • All caches will be listed as a bookmark link on the event page just prior to the event.

  • Please post a "will attend" note on the event page indicating if you can make it and how many will be in your party.

Suggested places to pickup food before arriving at the hall

  • N 45° 26.352  W 75° 39.822 : Pizza, Submarines, etc...
  • N 45° 26.504  W 75° 40.334 : Subway
  • N 45° 26.975  W 75° 39.096 : Dairy Queen
  • N 45° 26.933  W 75° 39.066 : The Works gourmet burgers

Theme this year:  Zombies.  Not too much gore though, this is a family game. :-)

Yes, there's been too many body parts turning up in Toronto and Montreal recently, we probably don't need to cause a scare with a geocache hidden in a severed head -  right Zartimus?!  ;)

Since I had basically just started caching when the last GAG was held I didn't participate in that one, I hope to participate in this one.

Already have a cache design in mind, if I can find a space for it...

I'm sure I might be able to find some space in the west part of Ottawa :D

I wonder what a zombie bird looks like?

Note to all participants;

Please keep in mind - NO BODY PARTS - we don't need any negative public reaction considering events of the past months...

Save the shenanigans for the GAG event on the Saturday...

No body parts... I can live with that, what about hiding a cache in a deep dark part of the woods and then sitting out there with 10 of your friends who happen to be dressed up like zombies to wait for unsuspecting cachers to arrive?

This very well may be the best GAG theme ever.

I was seriously considering doing that; hiding a cache in the middle of nowhere, waiting until someone approaches, then jumping out and scaring them.
That would be awesome!

As I will be returning from New England the afternoon of GAG Friday (October 19), making it to my cache for 6:00pm to frighten other cachers may be tough.

I can live with no body parts, although I imagine if made blatantly obvious (i.e. a "Beware of Zombies" sign placed immediately adjacent), the possibility of encountering problems and negative publicity would be minimal.

My guess would be a blood stained 35mm film container :)

Well, I'll give you this fair warning then : last time someone had the bright idea to jump out of the woods to try to scare me at night, he got a nice bruise where my hiking pole stabbed him in the solar plexus... and he was lucky I didn't aim lower  ::)

That is a beautiful poster!

I look forward to participating!

And as always I am open to pictures for the slide show if anyone has any they want to share! (Otherwise I just recycle the ones I have from GAG17 ;) )
