Coyotes spotted near GC3HHC3 (I Smell a Womp Rat)
« on: November 03, 2012, 17:43:59 »
While out caching this morning, as I approached the GZ of GC3HHC3 (GAG17 - I Smell a Womp Rat), a couple and their 3 dogs were heading north on the trail I was on.

They advised me that a pair of coyotes had run across the trail in front of them not too far south of where Womp Rat is.

Since I was caching alone and wasn't aware of how coyotes and humans normally interact, I opted to end my journey there and leave the remaining Lytle park caches for another day.

I was back in the area this morning getting the remaining traditional caches near Lytle Park.

No large wildlife spotted today (other than some dogs), but I did startle a rabbit (and vice versa ;D) as I approached Barrel of Toys.

A few days ago I was driving by that area! I thought I saw something resembling a dog walk out of the area, but wasn't sure! Wow.

A lone coyote will probably not bother you, just don't run away, he will chase you.
Best thing to carry with you is a small Air Horn this will scare off any coyote if he gets too close to you and also any un-friendly dog.

I was in Rockcliffe Park this morning, (at http://coord.info/GCG7HD) and a lone coyote ran past me in an easterly direction.

While signing the log for I heard a sharp rustle of leaves (like a squirrel would make). I look up and low and behold a brown grey 'dog' is running towards me.  Before I had a chance to react, he is about 20 feet away from me and keeps running in the forested part heading east.  All I could think is, "holy $#!+".

An article from today's Ottawa Citizen on urban coyotes.

I was reading that. I also read an article about some coyote sightings in Ottwaw. A 14 year old girl got attacked!

While driving down Timm Road Saturday afternoon, we spotted three coyotes in the field between the Trans Canada Trail and Timm Road.
