Munzee gpx files
« on: February 15, 2013, 10:30:03 »
While you MUST use a smartphone to capture Munzees, it is possible to download gpx files of munzees in an area so you can 'see' them as you geocache with another device.
This also allows you to locate munzees in an area without using your data-plan, a concern if you are using expensive data-roaming services.

The website http://munzee.dfx.at/ allows GPX/POI downloads to your GPS unit.

For folks using GSAK, there is a macro "MyMunzeesCsv.gsk" to upload munzees from munzee.com

cachesense has a munzee option as well.  I know I can cache off line with cachesense on my smartphone, (I used it in disney) so I would imagine it would be the same for munzees.

Sadly, CacheSense is not available on iOS devices.

For folks using GSAK, there is a macro "MyMunzeesCsv.gsk" to upload munzees from munzee.com

Another method is to use the Greasemonkey script:

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/120854

On top of all the cool stuff it adds to the functionality of the Munzee.com website, it allows the saving of Munzees directly from the custom map view.  Just zoom out until you see all the munzees on the map you want, and click "Save as Geocache" to generate a GPX file that is compatible with GSAK and your GPX capable GPS devices.  Careful not to use "Save as GPX" if you're uploading to your GPS and/or using GSAK, as the formatting is different.  "Save as GPX" is for things like Google Earth.

Since the GPS in my phone is not overly accurate and it eats my phones battery, I've been experimenting with DFX's GPX download on my GPS.

I created a Munzee profile and set up a filter in the Geocache list to only show the Geocache symbols associated with the Munzee types (it's not perfect but close enough).
Scroll the list, select the munzee you want, click go and navigate to it.

The only issue is that the filter does not work on the map so Geocaches and munzees are displayed at the same time.
