I'm going to bring up this thread again, as I am now going though this dilemma... I have a Map60Cx, which I really like, except for the lack of cache page info. It is starting to really bother me, hence I'm looking at replacing it.
Costco has Oregon 450's for just under $200. I picked one up but haven't opened yet. (you have to buy them when you see them or they may be gone the next time you visit) My wife asked me if I bought it because it is what I really want, or because its $200? What I really want is a Map60 with cache page information.
I don't consider using a smartphone as an option right now. I rarely bring the phone with me, but when I do, I use c:geo. Its a pretty good application, but my phone is really slow to lock to the satellites, its certainly not weather resistant or robust, and the screen is hard to see in daylight.
Most of the reviews I read for both devices are over 2 years old. The early reviews for the map62 lamented that the interface was not as nice as the Map60, and some features were missing.
Early complaints for the 450 were that it hung, it was not intuitive to perform functions such as projection or other functions.
Now that people have used it for a while, has the software on the Map62 been upgraded to address the acquire time and the intuitiveness and look and feel of the Map60 interface? Are proximity circles the only thing missing? if you "upgraded" from a Map60, do you still prefer your Map60?
What about the 450? Has stuff like this been improved with software upgrades, or did you get to know your gps better?
