GAG16 questions from a newbie:
  • Must all finds be logged on GC.com before 6PM Saturday or can I cache until that time and log later?
  • Can other caches close to a GAG cache be bagged or must I only go after GAG16 caches during the 24-hour period?

You are under no obligation to log anything at any time. Log them when you want.

Can other caches close to a GAG cache be bagged or must I only go after GAG16 caches during the 24-hour period?

There are no rules regarding what caches you find. You'd be crazy to walk by a non-GAG16 cache. While the new caches are a fun part of the event, they are only provided for your enjoyment. The only "rule" is that you need to wait until 6:00 PM on Friday.

A few years ago it was possible to complete all the GAG caches published for a given event, and there were many who tried.  In doing so, it was probably expedient to skip the non-GAG caches.  Nowadays I think there are so many, and so far flung, that it's not possible (or extremely difficult) to get them all within the 24-hour period, so few people try anymore, and so you might as well grab that other cache nearby.

Non-GAG caches are definitely fair game.
However, if you're going for FTFs, use your time wisely.

I figure ~90% of the GAG caches will have been found by 8:30 Firday evening.
So, if you're after FTFs, it would be wise to hold off on non-GAG caches for a while.
Personally, I'm holding off on the non-GAG caches until Saturday.

As with the last GAG, there will be people out there caching all night.
With it being Hallowe'en, I reckon there will also be several cachers in costume.

Vote?  What vote?  Is there something else I don't know about this event?

There is a board at the end where people can vote on different things, there are no prizes based on the voting it is for fun ( and to keep kids occupied with stickers ;) )

Congratulations everyone! There's a fine selection of caches, different types, different locations and geographically well spread out over the region! A fine crop of new GAG caches

Thank you all for placing caches for GAG16.

Thanks to everyone who placed a cache, found a cache, and came to the event tonight to celebrate another successful GAG. News was leaked, not so quietly, about the possibility of a Spring GAG this year, but we will have to see what develops.

Did anyone notice these folks gathered at the event tonight?

Can you name them?  ;D
