Not missing nearly as long as yours, but I sure was thrilled to see it appear after being lost since September 2010!

Why do people hang on to them for so long?

Whenever I pick up a TB, I try to relocate it within a week or so.

I 'lost' a TB to cacher who picked it up at his first find, then never went caching again! People lose TB's in the dark recesses of their cache bag, into the seat cushion of the car, or left in the pocket of their winter coat over the summer.

I think the worse are those people who let their kids 'play' with the TB and it's never seen again!  ::)

There is always that story of a cacher in Seattle that has had a sit down with groundspeak officials about his addiction to collecting and never releasing coins or tb's.  They have tried to step in and convince him to release them but it wasn't looking too good last I heard.

I had found a missing travel bug before

well, half of one. I found the tag in a geocache. So technichally I didn't find it but it wasn't logged in and nobody had seen for a long time.
Nice to find what you'v lost for so long

one of my geocoins hadn't been put back out in almost a year, so i contacted the person who it said had it, and he replied quickly, asking how he could get it back to me! i was thrilled, and today i received it in the mail, exactly how i asked him to send it! amazing!!
